Interview Essay - Peter Clauss Peter Clauss was born March 21, 1935, in what was then, East Germany. Growing up he worked in hotel restaurants; this was where he learned his trade. Instead of attending the regular school system he learned the skills that he would need later on in life in the restaurant. Today Peter enjoys attending the opera, theater, concerts and plays. It is these places where he finds most of his happiness in life. What is your definition of happiness? Not to have any worries or as few worries as possible. Has your definition changed over the years? Yes. This year I changed a lot, its a whole process. Who or what do you turn to when you are unhappy? Music or books, but especially music. Music†¦show more content†¦You go in apprenticeship, and you learn the kitchen, bartending and the bookkeeping, pretty much everything in the restaurant business. So no one really went to school for very long. You just studied and apprenticed in the jobs you wanted. In America you apply for a job and take a crash course for 2 months, and fill out some forms, and you still dont know anything. Would you share a fond memory of your family? Just working in the restaraunt for many years along side my family was good. Just good times, nothing really terrible happened to me, not in work or life or anything really. What are you most proud of in life? That Im still alive, and other achievements too. Is there anything you wish you could do that you have not yet done? I always wanted to be a musician. I could say I wanted to do this or that, but you know, I did the best I could. Now its too late. I cant be a pianist because its too late. Is there anything you wish you could change in your life? I really dont have any regrets; you know some people say, I wish I could have done this or that, but no. Coming from East Germany to West Germany was a big step. Thats why little things dont bother me. Is there a relationship between love and happiness? Oh yes. What relationships contribute to your happiness? All of my friends make me happy.
